Pumpkin Picking Adventures

Pumpkin Picking at Roundstone PYO

It's no lie that this time of year is my absolute favourite ever! As the colder weather starts to creep in, the cosy knits come out and the autumn adventures start to happen (if I'm not hibernating under a giant blanket that is!)

One of my absolute favourite things to do in Autumn is Pumpkin Carving. Each year, my boyfriend and I make it a tradition to carve one each and I swear every year they get bigger and bigger!

We usually buy ours from a local farm shop and we'd never really had the chance to pick our own before, so last weekend that is exactly what we did. As it was such a lovely day, we decided to pop down to Roundstone Pick Your Own in Worthing for the ultimate pumpkin hunt!

This is a seasonal PYO farm open from Mid May to 1st October (weather permitting!) and I swear they literally grow every kind of fruit and vegetable imaginable! As a child, my family would have loads of picnics and days out here, so it holds a lot of happy memories for me. I'm glad it's somewhere I can appreciate just as much being an adult!

When we got to the Pumpkin patches, there were hundreds in all shapes and sizes! Although this photo does it no justice whatsoever, you were definitely spoilt for choice.

As we were walking up to them, there were 2 perfectly shaped pumpkins sat on the path and I think (in our heads) we'd already decided they were 'the ones'. Thank you random person for leaving them there - they have now been safely rehomed!

In all honesty, we didn't really have a great amount of choice anyway as we totally forgot to bring a knife/ something to actually cut the pumpkins off with.. #amateurs.

After a few back breaking photos of our victorious finds, we had to find a way to get them back to the car. We weren't that far from the entrance but just to prove how BIG these actually were, I couldn't lift mine for longer than a minute, so as you can imagine this was quite the task..

Luckily, there are free tractor rides which offer pickups and drop off all around the farm, it seemed like our only option as I could't really make Jack carry both Pumpkins.. not to mention the fact it was physically impossible haha!

Chins for days.

As soon as we got on the tractor, we must have looked crazy because literally everyone started cracking up.. even the tractor driver heckled us - total comedian. After a few laughs, we were kind of dreading the price because usually,  if we buy pumpkins this sort of size from a farm shop, they cost almost £20 for 2! I KNOWWW.

We somehow got stupidly lucky because they only ended up being £4.80 each - what a bloody bargain! I guess you get them cheaper as you're doing all the work yourself (or your boyfriend in my case..) Tehe, soz Jack.

Picking pumpkins was such a fun day out and if you live near Roundstone or a PYO pumpkin patch, I'd highly recommend it. If you are planning on visiting, be quick as the last open day is Sunday the 1st of October!

Have you been Pumpkin picking yet? Are you as crazy as we are?!

Let me know in the comments! :)
