25 Things I've Learned In 25 Years

Twenty five. A quarter century. No-one to sing Taylor Swift to you. No-one to quote blink-182 reminding you that no-one likes you when you're twennnnnn'y three. Just plain old 25.

The only thing that excited me about being a year older was the day off work for bottomless brunch, karaoke and a day of drinking with my number one home slice, Jasmine. OH, ANDDDD being able to drive other people's cars with their permission. I know right, wild is my middle name.

I've learnt some valuable things in my time (despite not learning that alcohol isn't the answer to everything ever) however I thought would be good to share my findings with you. Sharing is caring and all that! You're welcome.

1. Taking care of yourself is v. important. Time out is fine, doing what you love is fine, embrace it.

2.  You are not a reflection of those who can't love you. It's easy to blame yourself if something doesn't work out but take a step back and if someone has chosen to walk away, that's a reflection on them and not you.

3. Know your worth. Ok, so I know I need to practice what I preach, but it's definitely something I'm learning and I'm definitely starting to realise what I want and don't want in recent months. And I know how I want and don't want to feel in someones company.

4. Owning a car is EXPENSIVE. You don't realise how much petrol and repairs cost until you actually drive yourself. Saying that, it's hard to live without when you don't have one.

5. Having a full-time job leaves you with less money than a part-time job? The answer to this? I will never know. Sorry. #adultlifeprobs.

6. Help will always be available. It's ok to feel scared but never feel ashamed to ask if you need it. When you open up, you realise how many other people have been/ are going through the same as you and it's surprisingly not as nerve racking as it first seems.

7. Exercise is not my friend. Unless it's a sunny stroll on the beach or the odd lap of a pool, I'm 100% not there for it. I'm still looking for a new thing to take up that doesn't make me feel like I might die in the process so any suggestions welcome!

8. Budgeting is absolutely not my strong point.. I'm still learning. Let's leave it there.

9. Speak your mind if something is bothering you. Otherwise it will just eat away at you more and more and it's better to know the answer, even if it's not what you want to hear.

10. Heartbreak isn't permanent. I mean, it absolutely sucks but we've all been in there drowning in our own tears and vowing we will never love someone else again, but time is a good healer and surrounding yourself with friends, family and happy things is the best thing to do. It just means someone more compatible is out there.

11. It's okay to let go of toxic people. In the words of Nessa from Gavin & Stacey ''Time's change, people move on.'' If a person isn't making you feel good about yourself, it's ok to walk away.

12. Try not to dwell on things that haven't even happened because they most likely won't. This is something I've learnt to deal with a lot over the last year and it's so much easier said than done but if you can't physcially change something, it's better to let the worry go.

13. But DO follow your gut. It's 99.9% always right. A lot of things proved my gut right this year but there's been times when I have ignored it and made a fool out of myself when I should have trusted it the most. I know when warning signs start popping up in future to just listen to myself.

14. I am terrible at replying to any message ever. If I do reply within a decent time frame, just consider yourself to be spesh.

15. I will never not love Pop Punk music. EMO FOREVER.

16. Hold on to people who stand by you no matter what and never let them go. Especially if they stick by you at the first sign of fear. They are good eggs.

17. There's no such thing as a cheap holiday. If anyone knows of any budget friendly travel miracles, hit a girl up!

18. It's ok to have just a small handful of friends. It's better to have a few true friends than lots of fake ones.

19. My hair styles will never look the same as the girls on Pinterest. Never. I mean, maybe one day but right now. Never.

20. It's better to go for it than spend your life not knowing. There's so many things I've avoided in fear of being rejected or messing up but some are the best things I've ever done.

21. Be the person you want to attract. I'm bloody weird but honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way. I have a good time and I am surrounded by the best people because of it.

22. Not everyone will like you. And maybe you won't like everyone. Don't waste your time and energy trying to change someones mind about you.

23. Comfort over style, always. Wear those flats instead of heels on a night out, stick on that baggy jumper for cosy purposes. If it makes you happy, do it.

24. Dogs are the best. We don't deserve them. Who wouldn't want a bouncy little fluff ball who is always pleased to see you? Ugh, I love them so much.

25.  Everything happens for a reason. I'm sorry, it's disgustingly cliche but I truly beleive this. If something doesn't work out, it wasn't meant to be and something better is just around the corner.

There we have it! Let me know your most valuable lesson below. :)

Lots of love,

T x
