Green Day, BST Hyde Park 2017

BST Hyde Park, 2017
There's no doubt that music, gigs and festivals are a huge part of my life. I said to myself this year I'd write more about things music-related and BST last weekend was definitely memorable one!

British Summer Time is a festival held over various different weekends throughout June and July in London's Hyde Park. I'm not going to lie, I never really knew it was a thing until very recently.

The thing I liked about this festival is that it seemed very family friendly and there were people of all ages having a great time. It was like the general moody consensus of London was thrown out of the window for the day and everyone was so nice to each other. People even spoke to me in the toilet queue. Lolz.

BST is basically it's own little village. When you walk in you are surrounded by pastel coloured bars, food stands, a Barclaycard play area with a slide, ball pit and various other fun looking things and rides!

The food stands though.. OH MY GOD. You were absolutely spoilt for choice (I was in heaven), there was everything from a Old El Paso taco van, Mac & Cheese galore, a waffle van and even a Pizza Express! Big wins in my books. <3

The only date that really appealed to Jack and I for BST was Saturday 1st of July. Playing were the likes of The Stranglers and The Hives throughout the day, however it was the main headliners Rancid & Green Day that interested us the most (being big fans of the alternative music scene and all).

We've seen Green Day multiple times before, but it was our first time seeing Rancid. Even though I only knew a handful on songs by them, they were still a lot of fun and Jack was loving it! They really set the punk tone ready for Green Day!

Before every Green Day show, they have 3 classic songs to get the crowd just that little bit hyped up! Bohemian Rhapsody was first which is one of my all time favourite songs. It gave me goosebumps to hear 65,000 people all singing along. Don't believe how insane it was? Watch this!

After that came Blitzkrieg Bop by Ramones and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly by Ennio Morricone then.. the might Green Day! They opened with 'Know Your Enemy' which is personally not one of my favourite songs by them. Although after one too many fruit Strongbows, I can't say I was that fussed!

Then came 'Bang Bang' and 'Revolution Radio' from their latest album, followed by some classics from American Idiot such as Holiday, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Are We The Waiting and some golden oldies from Dookie and Nimrod.

With the first half of the set being so great, there was an adorable girl who couldn't have been older than 8 or 9 who absolutely melted my heart. She was singing every word and it was so beautiful to see! Massive kudos to her parents who are clearly a very good influence on her music-wise! ;)

Billie Joe loves a good ''EYYYYYY-OHHHHHHHH'' (mainly to keep the crowd awake I think!) which probably extends their set by about 10 extra minutes but hey, it was all good fun! Green Day are also so good to their fans by getting certain people up on stage to sing for them, and even giving away their guitars (not sure if they actually did it this time though!).

Throughout their set we found ourselves dancing with so many fellow randomers and having so much fun with people we didn't know - it was great to know there was people out there just as crazy as we are! The thing I loved so much was being able to let my hair down and not care what people thought because it was such a non-judgemental environment.

Nearing the end of their set came some of my favourite songs by Green Day like 'Jesus Of Suburbia', 'American Idiot', 'Ordinary World' and they ended with a very emotional 'Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)'.

I bloody love Green Day so much and to see them live is always such a carefree and uplifting experience! I love that they stand up for what they believe in and make every one there feel like their worthy of something. Their music has resonated with me from a young age, particularly the American Idiot album which saw me through a very dark time in my teenage years. I can't thank them enough for that.
